Modern Amazons by
Bill Dobbins
The amazing book publisher Taschen has released a coffee-table book called
Modern Amazons, a photo book depicting women who build their muscles to capacity.
The book claims to be “exploring their significance as the first women
in history to look like this and considering the meaning that this kind of
body has for our society, our knowledge of the physiological possibilities
of the female body, the aging process, our sense of the erotic, and our expectations
as to what is 'feminine' and appropriate to our traditional sense of female
gender identity.” Whether it’s your ideal of beauty or not, the
muscle-laden women in this book provide a true fascination. MORE

Once Bitten by Adrian
Hunter and Chelsea Shepard
It isn’t easy being an evil genius. Just ask Donovan Grant, author of
the Internet’s first foolproof copyright-protection software. Hollywood
adores him, but he’s no hero to the millions who loved downloading free
copies of their favorite TV shows. Insanely rich, or maybe just insane, he
blew his royalties on a private island in the Caribbean where he pursues his
not-so-private obsessions, like photographing young ladies bound in expensive
leather and posting the results on his no-cost web site, exsx.org. MORE

Something Just Clicked
by Adrian Hunter
Something Just Clicked is the second of three
anthologies of Adrian Hunter’s short stories. This volume includes Hunter’s
first bondage serial, “The Rubbermaid Chronicles,” the amazing
adventures of a young girl who becomes intimately acquainted with the myriad
definitions of “service.” It also features edgier works like “Knotical,”
in which an unexpected telegram leads a woman on a dizzying ride from her
office through the city to the local marina and far beyond. MORE

Crash Your Party Dress
by Adrian Hunter
Crash Your Party Dress is the first of three anthologies of Adrian Hunter’s
BDSM stories. For readers not familiar with his library, Hunter’s work
has been described as moody, atmospheric fiction with a bondage twist. Unlike
classic erotica, these stories aren’t polite pornography that exist
simply to titillate. Hunter delves deeper into the human psyche to the place
where irrepressible sexual preferences collide with social mores and conventions,
that unknown part of the brain where torture becomes an expression of the
deepest love and respect.MORE

Footsucker by Geoff
Nicholson
I recommend this witty, absorbing book to all foot fetishists. Written by

quick read—shows clearly the love and inspiration brought by something
as simple and mysterious as a woman’s beautiful foot. MORE

“What would you do if you woke up with a penis?”
This question was put to women artists, scholars, performers, writers. . .women

Ms. Giles writes that women’s experience of the penis range from the
sublime to the ridiculous. The answers to this outrageous question—serious,
humorous, and sometimes strange—bear this observation out. MORE

Wonderful fiction for a lazy afternoon. On the surface Julia’s life
is enviable—she’s affluent, happy in marriage and as a mom, and

her to phone sex her erotic fantasies are stirred and she confronts evil,
perversity and her own strange passions. A fun piece and good blend of fiction

Going Down
This little book bills itself as “the best written words on a great
oral tradition”... It includes Norman Mailer’s musings about oral
sex as prelude; Harold Brodkey on oral sex as a refuge for those who have
lost faith in fucking; Gay Talese, in an excerpt from Thy
Neighbor’s Wife, lauding the dependability of the tongue. It’s
a baudy, whimsical, instructional, and, uh, gratifying exploration by many
wonderful writers. MORE

1000 Dessous, A History
of Lingerie, by Gilles Neret
A book that lovers of lingerie will enjoy and fetishists will treasure. Its
767 pages are packed with lingerie-related tidbits of interest and depict
lingerie through the ages as used in erotic movies, advertising, S&M,
and more. The introduction of mini-skirts is decried as being the downfall
of the most traditionally beautiful underpinnings. (Of course, the transition
to short skirts was accompanied by the wearing of pantyhose which itself has
become an object of fetishistic delight.) Photos fill the pages; copy is brief
and informative. MORE

A Different Loving,
by Gloria G. Brame, William D. Brame, and Jon Jacobs
This book was, for me, a revelation. It gave voice to areas of interest that
I had and was just beginning to explore. Chapter headings run the gamut from
Spanking to Ageplay to Transgenderism—in each, the topic is explored
(what it is, the “hows”, etiquette, etc). Over the years I’ve
gotten to know several contributors who were interviewed for this book; they
are credible, sane, and their insights make fascinating reading. MORE

Pain & Passion, A Psychoanalyst
Explores the World of S&M, by Robert J. Stoller, M.D.
The late Dr. Stoller, who was a professor of psychiatry at UCLA School of
Medicine, conducted extensive research on pornography and consensual sadomasochism.
His studies on gender identity and erotic behavior are fascinating. For example,
he posits that men are “more perverse than women in the sense that men,
far more than women, practice most of the perverse conditions . . . such as
fetishism, transvestism, voyeurism, and exhibitionism (because) little boys
must perform an act of separation from their mothers not required by little
girls.” Hmmm . . . even if this isn’t exactly so—and who’s
to say, really—it at least gives a place to begin one’s understanding.
Dr. Stoller’s other books include Porn: Myths
for Our 20th Century; Observing the Erotic Imagination; Sexual Excitement:
Dynamics of Erotic Life; and Perversion: The
Erotic Form of Hatred. MORE

The Art of Sensual Female
Dominance: A Guide for Women, by Claudia Varrin
It’s not really what Ms. Varrin, a professional dominatrix, says on
the topic of female dominance/male submission that is different, but the way
she says it. I felt a real kinship with the thinking of this woman: it’s
the connection of mind, heart, and soul that make the D&S dynamic work.
This is a very special book for men, women, and couples wanting to explore
the excitement and closeness and intense eroticism of D&S. MORE

Fetish, An Anthology
edited by John Yau
Mr. Yau approached his compilation of fetish-themed short stories intellectually.
He refers to Freud, Marx, and Picasso in his introduction . . . but in the
end Mr. Yau ended up with a book that is a perfect guilty pleasure. The first
story I read was “Love for $17.50” (by Charles Bukowski) . . .
about sex (indeed, love!) with a mannequin. I read subsequent stories with
compulsive eagerness. This book is fetishism served with a light heart and
lots of fun. MORE

Sexual Investigations,
by Alan Soble
This professor of philosophy examines the philosophical, ethical, and political
issues surrounding human sexuality. It’s an entertaining read about
all things sexual: the nature of “the act”, the ethics of sexual
conduct, pornography, masturbation, perversion, and more.
Dr. Soble ponders masturbation: It . . . “is sex with someone I care
about, to whose satisfaction and welfare I am devoted; it is incestuous; if
I’m married, it is sex with someone who is not my spouse and hence adulterous;
it is homosexual; it is often pederastic; it is sex we occasionally fall into
inadvertently.” No wonder “masturbation was the straw that broke
Joycelyn Elders’s back.”
Finally, owning a business that caters to those with secrets, Dr. Soble asks
the very question I love to ponder: “What (I like to add “and
who”) defines “healthy” sexuality?” MORE

The Butcher and Other Erotica,
by Alina Reyes
My first exposure to “The Butcher” was an audio cassette given
to me as a gift. The lyrical and sensual language enchanted . . . and I bought
the book to savor the words. It’s a short story about a young Frenchwoman
who goes to work in a butcher’s shop. Every day the butcher, repulsive
in his blood-stained apron and big beefy hands, whispers obscenities in her
ear, describing their imagined lovemaking. At first the girl is repulsed,
but as the summer heat takes hold, so does her lust. MORE
